Asan Barrage in Dehradun District

The Asan Barrage is a barrage in the Uttarakhand-Himachal Pradesh border region in Doon Valley, (Dehradun District), northern India, situated at the confluence of the Eastern Yamuna Canal and the Asan River and about 11 km (7 mi) from Dakpathar, and 28 km. northwest of Dehradun.

We had the opportunity to visit Asan Barrage in March, 2014, which falls in the Chakrata Road but before we reach Ponta Sahib while going from Dehradun. It is around 45 km from Dehradun. The road is good enough.

In the Chakrata Road we can see plenty of Sikhs who may be going to Ponta Sahib or just because it is near to Punjab.

This small stop is good enough to spend a couple of hours in the day time or stay in white huts at night time with your full family.

This spot has now been developed as tourist spot and being run by Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam(Govt of Uttarakhand).

There is a open restaurant beside the Asan River, where food is served from nearby Green canteen. Outside food is not allowed in this small restaurant.

But you can have your own food within the premises sitting elsewhere.

Since there are plenty of monkeys in the open, we instead paid one bed rent of Rs. 200 so that we can sit in a separately marked lunch/dinner room where table/chairs are provided.

Night Stay

It'd be exciting to make a stay at night in jungle surroundings. You can use heater/blower in winter and AC in the summer which will be charged extra

River Site Boating

It is really fun to sit in self-run small boats and peddle in the river. A maximum of four can be seated in each both. You'll be given life jackets and you can roam around for some 30 minutes before you'd need to return so that next set of visitors can enjoy the ride.

Car Parking

There is some parking space just before the entrance of the barrage.
